X201S Battery options different from other 201 ver?

This may have been covered before, but I can't determine what battery options apply to this model. It appears they do not necessarily interchange.

I have an X201s. Very portable, light, fast enough. The current battery (fits entirely within the case) was 56wh, now about 45wh. That's not enough, despite the small size and LED backlight this machine uses nearly 20watts.

What batteries fit this machine and offer 70-90wh?
Is there some reason this uses as much juice as a 14" CCFL machine? I set the power scheme to low power use, it was still 18-20w w wifi and screen backlight on.

I can accept adding about 3/8" thickness or 1.5" poking out the back and less than a pound, as more than that defeats the purpose of having a compact machine.

All X200[s]/X201[s] (i.e., s and non-s) take the same batteries -- types 47 / 47+ / 47++. The battery you are talking about is the 6-cell 47+ .. and the "newer" version of that battery is 63Wh capacity.

Your machine should be drawing no more than approx. 12W with WiFi on and screen at 2/3 brightness. Check that the BIOS power setting is "Balanced" and not "Maximum", and Intel SpeedStep is enabled. At 12W, the 47+ battery with 65Wh will yield 5+ hours of use.

BIOS -- Speedstep in enabled, batt setting showed "Balanced". I'd previously tried CPU set to lower speed, no real change. I just set the pwr mgr select to "energy saver" and reset CPU to "low" (not lowest)
Wattage bounced around quite a bit depending on what I was doing. Closing the control panel, of all things, seems to have cut it from 20 to around 10 watts. Hitting "apply" again Power manager after closing control panel|power seemed to make a difference... d'oh!

Is there some obscure setting to regulate wifi power use, there's one in XP. But it looks like I don't need that now, just a new batt.

43R9255 ThinkPad Battery 47++ (9 Cell - X200/X201)
9 cells, weight a pound. Retail from Lenovo is $180, probably much less anywhere else.
But if it will stay around 10-12 watts in actual use I won't need that many WH.

Yes -- that battery used to be 85Wh, but the newer versions are 94Wh. It is a fine battery if you can stand the weight + "ugliness" factor! Two 47+ batteries may be preferable to one 47++ ...

Yes -- that battery used to be 85Wh, but the newer versions are 94Wh. It is a fine battery if you can stand the weight + "ugliness" factor! Two 47+ batteries may be preferable to one 47++ ...

That may explain why a new 47++ at Newegg is $60 less than a new 47+ (!)
