X201s Keyboard feel

#1 Post by atanasoff » Fri Apr 25, 2014 12:30 pm

I have an X201s which does about everything well, except the keyboard has an odd feel, call it 'sproingy' for want of a better word. It feels cheap, unlike any other Thinkpad kb I've used.

Is this usual on this particular model, and where/how can I identify and buy a normal-feeling Thinkpad keyboard for it?

Although it's not always easy to differentiate - would you say that it's the keys themselves that feel springy/sproingy, or that the keyboard does not have enough support under it in certain areas?
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

K, just played with it a bit. There's enough support under the kb, it's not flexing. It's the keyfeel itself, just feels cheap rather than having a precise press/release.

I have a couple x200 series and I found that one of the keyboards available is of lesser quality. The one I felt had bad key feel and loud space bar is:

PARTS NO. 42T3704
FRU NO. 42T3737

The better quality keyboard is installed in my machine so I can't quickly check the number, but if you want it let me know.
