X220- HD Audio Controller/CPU - driver re-install
Posted: Sun Jul 20, 2014 7:37 pm
On my x220 (429136G, W7 pro 64 bit), I have installed a new mSATA drive (Plextor, PX-256MSM), and cloned the previous C:\drive (keeping the original Hitachi mechanical drive for storage) using Acronis True image.
All has gone well, everything (ie all of my software, comms, printers etc) is working perfectly except that the I have no sound and the speaker symbol shows "no audio output device installed". (After the mSATA was installed, I continued to work under the old hard drive and everything worked then; it is only since I moved the system drive to the mSATA that this issue has arisen. It immediately showed "device not installed" in regard to the sound system).
I have updated everything via MS update and used Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox (which worked very well) to update the hardware drivers etc. However, it reports that "one or more devices have problems" and lists:
"Intel Core i7-2620M CPU a 2.70GHz" (listed 4 times), and "High Definition Audio Controller" both as "disabled".
In Device Manager, the CPU is flagged (again, 4 times), as is the HD Audio controller, and under driver status each says "A driver (service) for the device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing the functionality. (Code 32)"
The Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox, Diagnostics produces device manager alerts, as follows:
"Driver problem on "Intel Core i7-2620M CPU a 2.70GHz" Reinstall driver (repeated x4 times), and
Driver problem on 'High Definition Audio Controller' Reinstall driver."
I do not want to touch the CPU (!) but this seems to be suggesting I completely disable the CPU and re-enable it (or uninstall the driver and re-install it).
Does anyone know how I can do any of this, safely?
Many thanks
