Samsung 840 Evo 1Tb not working in x220

Hi

I was sad to see that the TLC 1tb SSD from samsung didn't work in my X220. I got the "Error 2100 - Hard drive initialization error" message when booting.

I've updated both the SSD firmware and bios/firmware on the laptop to no avail. It didn't work.

So this post is just for your information, in case someone else thinks it's a good idea to use this drive.

Best Regards

Many complaints about the Samsung 840 EVO SSDs in the various forums.
The Samsung 840 Pro is OK though

840 EVO is nice HW but the firmware sucks, have had ongoing discussion with their EU CS and it seems it only works reliably on intel chipsets running Chipset drivers & MS SATA drivers. Any other OS or anything remotely like non Intel chippery and your bum is hanging out the door. Been waiting since March for the updates to firmware and Magician software.

I have the 500GB variant of same drive, and it worked right off the bat in the X220, without any issues.

Is the drive detected in the BIOS at all? Is it in the main hard drive bay? Is there an mSATA SSD installed as well?

But the X220 is an Intel chipset, and I assume he's trying to run Windows, unless otherwise stated. It also looks like the drive is malfunctioning even before OS boot.

Does the drive work in a different computer? Maybe it's simply defective.

Look at his signature, he's on Linux, although i would'nt disagree it looks like a faulty drive given the error.
