Swapping HDD between 2 X201's...

Hi,

I am the proces of selling one of the two X201's I have.
One had been in use as my "main" laptop and the other has been kept as a spare...

The question is wat would happen if I swapp the HDD, in this case a 64GB SSD from one to the other? I would sell the X201 with its original 160GB HDD as I would like to avoid having to have to re-install all programs and other folders I currently have on the "main" computer.

Both are running on Windows 7 64bit, the only difference between the 2 laptops is the CPU, one has the M560 2.67GHz and the other one has the M520 at 2.4GHz. Also one has a fingerprint reader and the other has a webcam.
The spare one is the one I did replace the mainboard on and from that one I dont have the original HDD. This one I bought for parts and arrived without HDD, RAM, and batterie. But because it was "as new" cosmetic I decided to replace the mainboard replace all the missing bits and get it up and running. I will use this laptop for when I am traveling as the normal X201 is lighter than the X201 Tablet.

The only thing I can come up with is the windows activation key, I will have to reactivate the windows when swapping the SSD to the spare one...anything else may happen/give me trouble when doing this?

Cheers,

Yves

In my experience even with such similar machines swapping hard drives will work for the operating system though depending on the installed programs some may have to be reactivated. For the webcam some software or drivers may need installing. A fairly simple proposition.

Swapping the drives between the 2 laptops has been no problem. Reactivation of Windows required despite of a BIOS upgrade...
