Tablet crashing while wathing HD video on You tube
Tablet crashing while wathing HD video on You tube
Its has happened 4x in total now that while whatching HD clips on you tube that my computer crashes.
The last time it looked like the video (could hear audio going on) kept playing altough I had a black display...the only solution is to force the computer off and do a restart.
It does it only while on battery power. Also noticed that while on battery that the video's dont play smooth, they play smooth when plugging the tablet in.
Power manager has been set to video playback...
Any tips?
Cheers,
Yves

No feedback so far...
Well I did some surfing on the internet and found a topic on the German Thinkpad forum where some guy's where experiencing exact the same problem...laptop crashing while watching a HD video on you tube. It does not crash straight away and not always.
Anyway, did not really found a solution but suggestions point in the direction of the graphics driver...

In all fairness, I'm not surprised at laptops or tablets crashing when watching a movie or video.
They are just NOT mode for such an activity.
That's what most people use their TV for...

Maybe I am from another generation but I do watch a lot of stuff on the net/youtube...
I do NOT share your oppinion, dees machines should be perfectly capable handling HD video clips. All the stuff on the net is HD these days. This computer has the i7 CPU, ok maybe not the newest CPU on the market but still.
I do have a Asus with an cheap ULV CPU and this thing has absolutely NO problem with full HD video's.
My other lenovo's have also no problem handling video clips. As said, I assume that this tablet has a problem with the graphics driver, I did reinstalled the driver but have so far not tried to "reproduce" the problem.

What particular Thinkpad Tablet model are we discussing here?
What operating system, and what program is being used to watch the video?

I'm guessing you have an X201, the i7 might be a low-voltage model, I don't think it would cause a freeze, maybe slowdown.
It must be a bad driver or maybe your browser? My X300 with its 1.2GHz ULV CPU certainly slows down on framerate when playing 1080p HD clips sometimes skipping audio, but it does not crash, nor does my browser chrome become unresponsive...
Usually I'd change it to performance if my medium power setting isn't enough, plays fine, not great on gaming but didn't overheat/BSoD.
Maybe adobe flash or perhaps java needs an update, there must be something.
I was using a few extensions for youtube for awhile, sometimes they would load the page oddly.

Re: Tablet crashing while wathing HD video on You tube
Since it only happens in battery mode, it may have something to do with aggressive CPU power-saving settings.
BTW, have you tried using Chrome and see if the problem persists?
