x201s SD Card Reader & USB External Storage device errors
I have a x201s with Windows 7. For some reason the SD card reader, usb thumb drives and usb external drive are not being recognized by my notebook anymore. I tried to update the SD card driver and probably did more harm than good as I was just grasping at straws. My other USB devices, iphone 5, wireless headset, etc all seem to be interfacing fine still.
I checked Device Manager and I have an error with the Generic - Multi-Card USB Device.
Could you guys please help me with some ideas on what could be causing this.
Thanks in advance for your time and help!
Jeff

Re: x201s SD Card Reader & USB External Storage device error
I just noticed in Device Manager I do not have any Ricoh Host Controllers listed under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section.
could that be the issue?
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: x201s SD Card Reader & USB External Storage device error
There will be no SD card reader entry in Device Manager until a card is inserted and detected.
On my x201s with a clean Win7 64bit install, two DM entries appear when a card is inserted:
Disk Drives > Generic Multi-Card USB Device
Portable Devices > [Name of SD Card]
Mine is using a generic Microsoft driver: 6.1.7600.16385
Neither TVSU or Windows Updates show any Lenovo/Ricoh SD card reader driver as having been added since the original, clean install.

91011 - thank you.
Could you tell me more info about the Portable Devices, device and associated driver?

Re: x201s SD Card Reader & USB External Storage device error
I believe I figured out what is causing my errors now.
I was told that the card reader was a realtek 2.0 - so we uploaded the drivers for realtek drivers to my x201s.
I subsequently figured out that was not correct and uninstalled the realtek driver package.
Well when I push in an SD card, a new line item in Device Manager opens up under Univsersal Serial Bus Controllers, USB Mass Storage Device/Hardware lds = USB\VID_0BDA&PID_0159&REV_5888. This is the realtek drive stuff.
Does anyone know how I can completely remove the realtek drivers?
Thanks,
Jeff
