Bluetooth not found on X220 in Windows or Linux

Hello all,
I have an X220 that I use as my main computer, it had a Bluetooth daughter card in it that I couldn't get to register either under Windows or Linux, so assuming it was probably in silicone heaven I purchased another to replace it with, yet it still isn't recognised in either operating system.
I've gone through loads of (software based) tutorials etc... in an attempt to get it working, but no joy. I generally don't run Windows, but installed it to see if it was just a Linux issue, I'm now back to running Linux only (Ubuntu Gnome 14.04).
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what could be attempted, maybe on a hardware level, but I will try anything. I don't use Bluetooth too often, usually just to transfer a couple of photos from my phone, it's just a little annoying that I can't get it going.
Just a note, under Linux the card isn't found at all, even as not working, it might as well just not be there.
Cheers in advance.
Jim
