Lenovo X201 - Slow fingerprint response and no reading

The X201 fingerprint reader worked fine from delivery but when last tested it can no longer identify anything.
The configuration software starts and the two leds on the reader activates but there is no scan result.
On a few occasions the fingerprint recordning registered one completed scan but a full recordning with multiple successfull scans could not be achieved. Try fingertips or not does not matter.

It seems the software is slow and laggy as it takes two to five seconds for the reader to activate when a finger button is pressed and the image indicating it is ready to scan is first blank or a circle and then shows up with some delay.

Have reinstalled fingerprint software and drivers. No diagnostics tool found.

Is the delay normal or an indicator of the reader not working ok?
