X220 WWAN card problem - Windows 10

Hi All,

Not sure if anyone here can help, I hope so. I am having trouble getting my WWAN card working in Windows 10 TP. I posted a message on the Technet forums yesterday, so far nobody there has been able to help. Just thought I would post here too.

I am running the latest available drivers for the Ericsson F5521gw from the Lenovo website, although these are W7 drivers, they worked perfectly in Windows 8.1 (I did not even have to install them in compatibility mode). They seem to install properly in W10, but I have the issue below.

My question (as posted on Technet):

I am testing Windows 10 TP (Build 9860) on my Lenovo ThinkPad X220 laptop with integrated Ericsson F5521gw WWAN card.

I have tried creating a connection to the internet via PPPoE in the Network and Sharing Center. However, I am getting Error 651 - 'The modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error'.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the WWAN card drivers but had no luck. The WWAN adapter is displayed correctly under Network Connections and in Device Manager.

Mobile broadband on this laptop worked perfectly in Windows 8.1, in fact 8.1 even automatically configured a connection to my mobile provider, all I had to do was click connect. Is this auto configuration feature not implemented in Windows 10 TP?

Hope someone can help.

Thank you.

Have you ever solved it?

Well,
You might use the problem-solving capacity of Win10, that allows for older drivers (Win7, Win8, even XP) to be used in compatibility-mode.

I did install preview-versions on thinkpads (X60, X60T, X6, X61T, X200T, X201T) with both Ericsson's and another WWAN Card.
I needed some time and several Trials, but I managed to have them work .

Is there anything special to use the compatibility mode, or is it activated automatically?

I did try...

- download the appropriate driver for that typ of card with Lenovo's Thinkpads (for Win Vista, 7 or 8.1, in the appropriate flavor 32 or 64 bit)
- did the first part of installation (the extraction into a folder in DRIVERS)
- started the second part of Installation as admin and with a right-click in order to have WIn 10 try the installation in compatibility-mode.

That did help with older (!) Ericsson-cards, on which You 'll find lots of complaints of mistaken/ unsuccessful installation.
Nevertheless, it may take some time, until You 'll find that piece of software/driver, that does it completely and perfectly, that shows Your "Gerätemanager" as perfectly free of exclamation-marks and/or warnings.

So I had to try and err, too. At last I managed to get the cards functional, although I did not intend to use them (over here it is LTE that makes the difference), but I prefer my installations to be perfectly functional in order to prevent other deficiencies while using the machines...
