3G not showing, even with driver installed

#1 Post by phil81uk » Sun Nov 09, 2014 2:46 pm

X301 running fresh install of Win 7 x64.

This is a new one. I've installed Windows on several X301 laptops countless times and this hasn't happened before. I had to reformat this laptop after it failed to boot up.

I used System Update to install all the drivers plus Windows update. I can see the 3G Wireless WAN in device manager (which claims it's working correctly). But when I click the connections icon in system tray there's no 3G there. Fn-F5 normally allows me to enable/disable bluetooth, wifi and 3G, but now it says Wireless Lan is disabled. And a minute later the Wireless Lan option has totally disappeared from the Fn-F5 menu.

Not sure what to try now seeing as drivers are installed. Maybe reinstall?

Network connections shows my wired LAN, Wifi adaptor and does not show the F3507 3G adapter.

There are no settings in the BIOS. I wonder if the adaptor has gone wrong. For months now the 3G modem has been causing regular appearance of blue screen of death. And then last week the OS stopped booting up. I reformatted the computer and everything works apart from the 3G adapter.

No wifi settings?
How about checking Config/Network and Security/I/O Port Access...

You're right. All is enabled in both those menus of the Bios.

I do have a spare X301 for parts. I could switch the 3G module over. Is it difficult?

The F3507 is not supported anymore by the newer Lenovo drivers.

Version 6.3.3.6 will work. You might have to take out the SIM card before installing the driver.

Thanks. Which drivers are you referring to? I've found the following but it says "activation" and doesn't look like a device driver. I've looked for a way to find older drivers on Lenovo but no luck. I've found some direct links but ideally I'm after the latest "old" driver if you know what I mean.

Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation (Ericsson F3507g, Qualcomm Gobi1000, Qualcomm Gobi2000) for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad

Not the version listed at the top! Scroll down a little for the links to the older versions.

Well that worked! Very nice thank you! I'll hang onto this driver for next time.
