Finally got an X220

My dad's been looking for a replacement for his dual-core Atom netbook.
He didn't like the X61T I was rebuilding, even after I went through the trouble of modding a webcam on it (one of his requirements).

Then again, ever since he saw my sister's X220 last June, he was never the same.

December rolled in and a trusted local seller posted an ad for an X220 with a few months left in the warranty.
Dad practically ordered me to grab it for him, no questions asked. :D

Not even the horrendous holiday traffic jam could stop me.
Granted, I was an hour late, but I kept the seller informed of my travel status, and he was cool with it. Take note that I had set aside 3 hours for a normally 1.5-hour commute, and still ended up an hour late. :|

We both felt a sense of deja vu though: our previous deal (where I got the X61 T9300) featured a completely unexpected and far worse traffic jam. :(

Anyways, while I inspected the Thinkpad and ran some tests, we had a nice chat, where I said that I'd get an X220 for myself if another popped up, even though I doubt it would happen any time soon.

Speaking of the Thinkpad, it was in excellent condition. At first glance you'd think it was brand new, but he pointed out that some of the keys were slightly glossy. The keys' tactile feedback was unbelievably crisp, which made me wonder if the previous owner preferred to use a USB keyboard. Very few scratches.
Bottom line: either seldom used, or taken care of very well.

It was a very good buy.

One mSATA SSD later, my dad is very happy with his new machine.

Then one week later, I get a message from the seller, saying that he had another X220 available, and asked if I wanted it.

OH MY G--

We haggled over the price and the configuration (I had the hard drive removed because it was too small for my needs).

This time, the traffic was surprisingly very light (was it because it was Sunday? I dunno), and I was an hour early for a change. :D
So I asked him, "How did you get another one so quickly?"
He answered, "One of my friends was upgrading."
"Upgrading!? This one's still pretty good!"
"He's probably got a lot of cash to spend."

His loss, I thought to myself.

So, I present my newest machine:
Thinkpad X220 Type 4291-P79
Core i5 2520M
2GB DDR3 1333 RAM
No HDD
6-cell battery at 74% capacity

For now, she sleeps till I get a 60GB mSATA SSD (I'm eyeing a Kingston mS200) and either a 500GB or 1TB hard drive. :D
