Advice needed: swap X201 motherboard or lid?

#1 Post by Edward Mendelson » Wed Jan 14, 2015 6:15 pm

I've got two X201 units here, one with an i5 motherboard and a WXGA+ screen from an X200s, the other with an i7 motherboard and an ordinary WXGA (non-plus). I'd like to have the i7 and the WXGA+ on one unit, and the i5 and WXGA on the other unit.

I've only swapped a motherboard once, and never swapped a lid. Can anyone suggest which would be easier - move the motherboard from one to other, or move the lid? I'm basically a beginner at these things.

I'll be grateful for any advice on this.

Swapping the lids is by far the easiest.
HMM has all the info (same for X200/X201).

Lid swap would be much easier.

Either way you'll have to remove KB, KB bezel, palmrest and disconnect the antenna cables and LCD connector.

From that point it's only four screws to remove the lid.

I'll take that as a pretty clear recommendation to swap the lids. Thank you!
