X201 microphone doesn't work

X201 microphone doesn't work

X201 running 64 bit Windows 7. The microphone used to work and then one day it didn't. I have tried replacing the LED inverter which appears to have the mic on it, and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?
T60 2007-7JU (15" Flexview, has a T60p mobo for the v5200, 4gb ram, changed HDD w/7200rpm 100gb, T7400 2.16ghz Core 2 Duo)

First I would check if it is not a SW issue, by trying a different OS, perhaps a Linux LiveCD of some kind.

It can also be caused by a X200 sound board.

I wanted to try it since it saves power in linux:
