x220 wierd bootup

#1 Post by iceblitzed » Sat Feb 21, 2015 9:34 pm

Hello :

My computer has been booting strangely. I think it is because of the recent cold weather. I have also recently disabled Hyperthreading (for simulation purposes) in the BIOS but I don't think that is the cause though. Anyways here is a video of how it boots up. It will explain what is happening better than I can

PS. My video skills aren't the best :/

So, basically, you power it on, it lights up momentarily, powers off for a couple of seconds and then powers on again and boots normally?

That is strange behavior indeed. I have not seen it on any X220, although it happens on my desktop since day 1.

Does it happen only on AC? Only on battery? Both? Any external peripherals connected?

Yes, that is what happens. It is happening on AC power with no external peripherals connected. When I get the chance I will try this only on battery.

sorry for the long response . this circumstance happens on both battery and ac. the laptop seems to function normally after bootup though

Does this happen in a room temperature setting? Have you tried using the defaults in the bios, or even reconnecting the CMOS battery?

Cold weather should not affect the laptop, since T400 era and newer thinkpads pass mil-spec tests which include low temperatures: http://www.lenovo.com/si/en/thisisthinkpad/milspec.html. So far I haven't run into issues while using my thinkpads in near freezing conditions.
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, T23, 600X, 770
Other: mk5 Toughbook cf-19, mk1 Toughbook cf-53
