X220 New Network Card?

#1 Post by Justintoxicated » Wed Feb 25, 2015 5:08 pm

Hi I currently have an x220 with an intel 6205 network card.

This card does not seem to be able to tether to my wifi hotspot of my android phone. It is also unable to connect to a wifi 4g based hotspot router in the office. It connects to normal non 4g routers fine though.

Actually it can connect to the wifi hotspot just fine, sometimes I will get a message that there is no internet access available, and other times it will show internet access but it does not work. Looking online it seems that this network card has unsolved driver issues but since there appears to be no solution to this problem I would like to replace this network card with something else as the laptop is nearly useless to me as 1/2 the reason for the purchase was to connect to the hotspot at work.

Issues with this card are all over the internet but I found no solutions. For example here:

I have tried both the latest lenovo drivers and the latest intel drivers.

Is this bios based off the latest version?

Replacing the card should solve the issues I am having right? But then I will always need a modified bios? :(

edit: Looks Like I need to downgrade my bios first I don't think I have (8DET69WW)

I guess Ill have to see if I can find that version first, I am currently on 8duj25us (the file name says 8DET69WW-8duj25us so do I need to downgrade?

and this is the card your recommending?

*note I am currently tethering my phone to my laptop via USB. Internet works in this way since I cannot use the wifi tether. However the USB tether keeps leading the bluescreens. These only happen when using USB tether on my phone. I cannot get the bluetooth tether to work due to another windows driver issue :( I wonder if it's even worth fixing this thing. The keyboard is acting up now too :( I bought this laptop used a few weeks ago and it's already having all sorts of issues...

Just an update, I removed lenovos and intels drivers and rolled back to the windows default driver and my internet appears to be working fine now when connected through 4g networks - mobile hotspots
