X220 Touchpad issues

Hello all,

I recently disassembled my X220 to clean out the dust, etc as well as repair some cracks and broken plastic in the palmrest (used sugru). To do this I took out both the keyboard and palmrest fully. The issue is that after reassembly the palmrest no longer functions. I made sure to reconnect the ribbon cable for the touchpad into it's little slot as indicated in the X220 hardware manual. I've also checked that this isn't a software issue -- it doesn't work in two flavours of linux or windows. The BIOS settings have both the trackpoint and touchpad enabled. Everything else functions perfectly (as did the touchpad before the disassembly).

I think the connection to the touch is 'registering' in some limited sense b/c when the cable is connected the trackpoint stops working as well. So there is some response to it being connected (where the touchpad & trackpoint don't work) and it being disconnected (where the trackpoint does work).

I guess my question is then: is there some trick to re-assembling the palmrest that I missed? Maybe some procedure to reinsert the ribbon cable? Could my filling in the cracks and broken plastic (near the outside corners) with sugru have done this? I am basically at a loss at this point, and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
