X220 does not come with a high res screen? And the X230?

According to thinkpad wiki the x220 maxes out at 768p. Both the x201s and the x240 can reach higher (900p and 1080p respectively). Is the x220 stuck at 768p or has no one updated the wiki?

I believe this is true but there's two 1366x768 screens: non-IPS and IPS.

edit: To possibly answer your logical follow-up question... In order to determine what screen any particular X220 has, you'd have to first determine the model type (e.g. 4291-2WU), then search the Hardware Maintenance Manual. Note that the current HMM may not have all of the possible model types that have been produced, in which case then you would have to obtain the serial number of the system and use the Parts Lookup site:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookup

Locate the FRU for the LCD (which is usually annotated as such) and check it against the FRU for the IPS (Premium) screen of 93P5675 or non-IPS screen of 93P5669, 93P5671 or 93P5673. As I've been looking for an X220 with the IPS screen option, I've done this several times now :) .

You also have to remember that X201s - which is a pretty rare machine - sports a 16:10 aspect ratio as opposed to 16:9 on a X220. The chances are that you can find a decent X220 for less than X201s with 1440x900.

As for X240/250, they were offered with FHD IPS screens but one can't upgrade X220 or X230 with them due to the difference in connectivity setup (LVDS vs. eDP).

Happy shopping.

I seem to recall someone putting the 1080p IPS from a Dell XPS Duo into a X220, but it was quite involved.

While it's true the X200s or X201s can get you a WXGA+ LCD, the image quality is not that great, so you're kind of hosed either way. It's too bad Lenovo never saw fit to put a good screen into the X200s or X201s. I would have made an excellent ultraportable.

The X220 is indeed stuck with WXGA (1366 x 768)

Otherwise, mods like this http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=106919 would have been unnecessary.

It seems like the X230 is stuck with 1366x768 too.

Indeed it is.
