Is it worth getting the "s" versions of the x200 & x201 because of the higher resolution screen?

The x200 and x201 have a 800p screen.

The x200s and x201s have a 900p screen.

Is there any disadvantages to them, other than the "s" versions are:

More expensive

The screen resolution depends on your needs. If 1280x800 is fine for you, then it is. Personally, I find 1280x800 to be a bit limiting at certain times. It is best to actually look at screens at these resolutions to make a better decision.

Please notice that not all the x200s have got the higher resolution panel, there are X200s with the standard 1280x800 panel.

Anyway, for me, in this model, is more important the difference in image quality between the standard LCD and the PVA panels than the little difference in resolution between LCD panels.

Some years ago I had a X200 and was dissapointed with the LCD quality, now I have got an X200t with PVA panel (the outdoors 400 nit version) and I love it.

Some more hints.
WXGA+ models have not only different LCD but completely different lid. It thinner and made of plastic not Mg. There is no WebCam and WWAN antennas in WXGA+ lids.

There is mod (on german ThinkPads forum) to add WWAN antennas to WXGA+ lid.

And ofcourse you can place WXGA+ lid ontop of normal X200 / X201.

As for me X201s WXGA+ LCD is not the best with strong blue hue, but i think it can be recalibrated with colorimeter.

Do bear in mind that LV CPUs seen in X200s are quite anemic by today's standards. They do, however, provide for an exceptional battery life.

It's obviously a matter of personal preference, but I prefer the way that text looks on the higher resolution screen. And, there are some tools that I use that simply won't work with the lower res screen.

It's not AFFS or IPS, but I wish my T420 had a screen with my X200s' resolution.

You can tell if an x200s/201s has a 1440 or a 1280 LCD by looking at the LCD bezel.
A WXGA+ 1440x900 will have the Lenovo branding next to the left hinge.
A WXGA 1280x800 will have the branding by the right hinge.
Chances of finding a WXGA+ x201s are pretty slim and even then you’re probably looking at around $400.

It's not a matter of right or wrong, but what you like. While you do get a 100 extra pixels, it makes for smaller text, which can be tiring or cause eye strain for some. Since I don't know you, it's hard for me to say for you. Personally, I'd rather have the X220 with the IPS LCD or bump up to a larger notebook if I want more resolution, but that's me.

Answering these two questions would help you decide:

1) What resolution(s) have you been using? If it is 1366x768 or 1280x800, do you feel crippled by it?

2) What pixel densities are you used to? 1280x800 on the X200(s) gives 124.75 DPI, whereas 1440x900 on the same laptop is 140.34 DPI. Tell me the size and resolution of your current laptop and I will tell you what DPI it is.

My HP Pavilion X2 is 1280x800. I do only the simplest things on it, but still feel very restricted by its small real estate. For example, I often need to display a Word document on the left and a PowerPoint on the right. To do this, I view the former at 90%, and the latter at 50 - 60%. 1440x900, which provides 26.6% more pixels, would have made a significant difference.
