Cannot make "a boot order" after F12 pressed
Cannot make "a boot order" after F12 pressed
I've bought today external DVD/RW for overwriting of win7 with brand new XP SP3 but namely, a problem is next...
After getting into a little "boot menu" after F12 after turning on of the computer, I have no clue am I select that dvd-rw drive at all... becaouse, right after I'm getting message something like "no boot name file" wich in forums is named as boot ordering problem itself...
What we officialy do on x200s to change boot order of booting devices, what strict sequence of keys?

Re: Cannot make "a boot order" after F12 pressed
Welcome to thinkpads.com!
1) Is the external DVD/RW connected to the X200s with a USB plug?
2) Exactly what kind of Windows XP install disk are you using? Is it an official Thinkpad restore disk from Lenovo or something else?
3) Have you tried using the external DVD drive on another computer to see if it works properly?
To access the BIOS and set the boot order (assuming that you are using an external USB drive):
1) Attach the external drive, power up the laptop and press the F1 key several times.
2) You should see a message at the bottom of the screen saying it is accessing BIOS. If you have a Supervisor password, you will need to enter it here.
3) Main BIOS menu is displayed. Click on Config then USB.
4) Make sure that USB BIOS Support is ENABLED; click on the name and select Enabled. Then press the ESC key twice to get back to the main menu.
5) Click on Startup then Boot. You will see a list of devices numbered 1 to 8 in the Boot Priority Order section. The first device will be checked for a bootable system. If not found, then the next device in the list is searched and so on.
6) A USB external DVD drive should be listed as "USB CD:" and should appear in the Boot Priority Order listing. If BIOS detects the drive, I believe it will also list the make and model of the drive. If it is at the bottom of the page under "Excluded from boot order", then it needs to be "included" by selecting it with the pointer/arrow keys and pressing the "X" key.
7) The USB CD: entry should normally be located before (lower number) the hard drive (ATA HDD0). Click on the USB CD: entry and then press the F6 key to move the device up in the list. As long as it is before the HDD0 you should be okay. To be sure, make it the first device.
8) Press the ESC twice to get back to the BIOS main menu.
9) Press the F10 key to save the new settings and exit BIOS.

Re: Cannot make "a boot order" after F12 pressed
In boot order list in bios (after startup and boot entering) changing boot order is locked by explanation on the right that says I am in a user mode (beside that I've already entered proper pass for bios) and that I must be in the supervisor mode to change boot order.
When I try anything here it just beeps...

Then you did not enter the correct Supervisor password.

Anyway thank you for responses.
Man in the video explains what I must do... he also mentions example where beside proper "first" password some options in bios are still "grayed out" but his solution is little radical for me in terms of that I'm not an "natural mechanic" but I want to run xp sp3 (not factory one) so much that on the end I must become a "mechanic"
