[SOLVED] Thinkpad x220 blank screen with mute button on

I have a weird problem on my thinkpad x220. The screen randomly goes off and at the same time the mute button goes on. It occurs rarely, like ones a day.

I can turn on back the screen by:
1) pressing the mute button.
2) unplugging/plugging the power cable.
3) close the screen and reopen again.

And everything goes back to normal.

The laptop is running the latest version of the bios 1.40. I have tested my rams using mprime and memtest86+, no errors so far.

Any clue?

It happens on my X220 as well, and I have absolutely no idea why it happens.

BIOS is 1.40 as well.

Hi!

The same thing by me....

thought this might be the crucial, but i have had another problem with this MX100, the blue screen and the error 2100....but the firmware update fixed this...

this screen blank and mute button off turns on...occurs by me from time to time...machine is X220 with I7....

Bios is 1.39.

Why this happens,...no plan and no idea, sorry......just have to live with i guess...

Kindly,

I solved my problem

I had recently changed the laptop memory putting in it two ramaxel 4GBx2. Since then the problem appeared. First I did not correlate it to the ram change, but clearly now after i inserted back the default samsung 2GBx2 rams, the problem disappeared completely.

The ramaxel rams that I have used are 1600MHZ, not the supported 1333mhz , so I'm pretty sure this is a problem of incompatibility.

I'm not sure if this is related, but I know that Lenovo, from Bios version 1.29 and above, forces a 1333mhz ram frequency.

I think that I do not need more than 4GB, at least under my Archlinux, my swap space is almost always free. With the msata drive, the laptop is fantastic.
