[x201s] Heat dissipation after heavy load

#1 Post by X20055 » Mon Aug 03, 2015 7:18 pm

I have found out that i7 x201s has some strange problems with heat dissipation after heavy load test, like mprime. This is most likely not related to fan/heatsink beacause I have recently placed new one and it's same as before. The problem, in mprime for example:

idle = 45 celc / 10W
heavy load (mprime torture) = 65 celc / 25W

Sounds fair, but right after shutting down mprime fan didn't cool down CPU to idle temp/wattage instantly. Instead heat slowly dissipates at rate like 1-2 celcius/minute. Same with wattage. So after 5 minutes my cpu was 61 celc using 20W. Then another few minutes and it's at 58C/17W stuck.

Any ideas what could be causing it?

Monitor the CPU % after stopping mprine, and check your power profile.

BTW what OS are you using?
