x200 with 45N6091

My x200 that I've been using's CCFL screen finally burned out. Since I've worked on it a bit it has a ssd and a fairly good battery. While I've moved up into a t430s I'm thinking about resurrecting the x200 with a new screen. I've been reading here for a bit and it looks like there's a fairly easy upgrade to 45N6091/HV121WX4-120. I've found a screen that has a scratched digitizer and the board attached. Since my x200 is not the tablet version it is my understanding that I can carefully remove the scratched digitizer and essentially have a clean screen under the digitizer.

Can anyone confirm that this screen will work?

Hi there!

If it looks like this....http://www.ebay.de/itm/271905695288?_tr ... EBIDX%3AIT

you have to cut round the border...but just watch out for my thread to this....X201 AFFS Mod or so...

Here it is ;-) http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 14#p761214

The digitizer can stay at the back of the display,....that's no problem at all...

Kind regards,

I realize this isn't the same screen, but it looks like removing the digitizer screen in front of the lcd might be similar. Can you confirm?

After removing the digitizer screen is it pretty much just plug and play going into a x200 ccfl?

Hi again!

Take a brief look at the hmm referring to that model (x200t) on page 165...that is the whole thing...it isn't that complicated to get to the wanted screen....and the whole digitizer thing i always left on the back of the display....no problem at all...

but the other thing is, the seller i bought my affs on ebay has tested a lot of tablet HV121WX4-120 displays, there were no displays without any fault...there getting old and they get faults,....you will be a very lucky guy to get one without any spots or whatever on it.....

So better think it over.....if you want to stay on X200 try to get an LED one and try to get the 1280x800 42T0711 124,8 200 LED 500:1 16ms LG-Philips LP121WX3-TLC1, this is the best LED TN Display for this machine....and it isn't as much bad as an boe hydis and it has already LED.

Sincerly,

PanDoRA

Alternatively, go for a higher resolution WXGA+ 1440x900 with LED-backlight.
FRU 42T0480,P/N 42T0479. It's a Toshiba LTD121EQ3B.
You'll also need a different LCD-cable for it.

I'd rather go with an LED because I know they would last quite a bit longer and likely be somewhat brighter, but I'm a bit daunted by the additional work that would needed for them.

From what I've read it looks like the led would need the screen and the cable and maybe some additional custom work? Or is it just about as simple as replacing a ccfl screen?

If you can find a complete lid with either CCFL or LED (regardless of resolution), you can swap the whole lid.
Replacing a LED- or CCFL-screen itself is the same, except you use an LCD cable/inverter for CCFL and a different LCD-cable/LED-board for LED.
Read the HMM (see HMM link at the top of this page).

So I'd need the entire lid and I'd be able to swap a led lcd, is there any additional work involved in getting the cable/led board to work with the motherboard etc? or is it just plug and play.

I'm fairly familiar with taking thinkpads apart and working with the internals, but I just want to make sure that there won't be any issues with getting the computer/motherboard to talk with the lcd screen.

Pure plug'n'play of the whole lid.

Ok so if I can find the entire lid with cable for WXGA+ 1440x900 with LED-backlight FRU 42T0480,P/N 42T0479 I should be golden. And just remove the lid with the dead ccfl lcd and plug and play.

Just checked ebay for both lids listed, unfortunately it looks like most are only the lcd screen, and no cables. I'll have to keep an eye out for a complete set.

Your best bet for a complete WXGA+ lid assembly is finding a cheap, incomplete or damaged WXGA+ x200s. Not every x200s has a WXGA+ LCD but by looking at the LCD bezel you can tell if it does. The LENOVO brand on the WXGA+ bezel is near the left hinge and on the WXGA is near the right hinge.

When I last looked, the first two ebay listings for an x200s both have WXGA+ LCDs. One has a BIOS password and will likely go for less than trying to accumulate the various parts to assemble a lid.

If you already have the LCD panel, I just rediscovered a complete WXGA+ lid assembly with a cracked LCD. Top is in very good condition but there is a small crack in the top, center edge of the LCD bezel.

Personally, I would first go for one of the ebay machines.

pm me details on the lid, other than the lid and the lcd i'd still have to source the cable on ebay as well. kicking myself for not getting that complete x200s
