I have just put 8gb of ram (2x4GB) in my x200. It seems to be working ok but when i tried memtest it just froze after a few seconds.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

What make and model is it?
If type 1Rx8, that's your problem, you'll want 2Rx8.

Thanks for getting back to me DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz
Label says P ram premium memory power (Ive never heard of them either :D )
Doesnt say on sticker 1R or 2R but I presume its 2R x 8 though as there are 8 chips on each side, is that right?
Actual chips are made by hynix
Oh sorry its my X200s i have put them in not X200, does that make a difference?

Go back to PC3-8500 if you can.

That mentioned memory is 1Rx8 configuration. Needs 2Rx8 which is 16 chips in total for x200 notebook to work.

Older than T410 had this problem (knew this as I already tried before). I tried in T410, will not work, and I am sure this is a problem on 200, T400/T500 (any C2D).

Cheers, thinkpadcollection.

This is the layout you want for ram.

This is probably what you have in your X200.

Notice how the memory modules are lined up. The top photo is the 2r x8 stuff.

Thanks for your replys guys.
RBS got this at a good price but will get 8500 if i need to.

TPC Mine does look like the one in the top pic with 8 chips on either side like Hans said.

Anyhow i think i now may have found the issue. My version of memtest86 was on an old disc that i have used for years & is v 3.5 from 2009. Apparently it can have trouble reading more than 4gb.
Just downloaded the latest version & not done a full pass yet but 20 mins in so far no problem.
The old version crashed after less than 10 secs.
Fingers crossed it completes ok :D

Thanks :D 2 passes of the new memtest went fine & its working great so looks like the old memtest i used was definitely the issue.
