Installing Windows XP on Thinkpad Lenovo X200s

#1 Post by karol4 » Thu Oct 01, 2015 8:16 am

I am new to this forum, and not familiar with posting in general.
Recently I bought an X200s Lenovo Thinkpad, which was delivered with Windows 7.
I don't like W7 and I am used to work with XP, so I want to run XP on this laptop.
Here is what I did:
- Replaced the HDD with a new 128 GB Transcend SSD.
- In BIOS changed SATA setting from "AHCI" to "Compatibility".
- Installed Windows XP SP2 Family edition from legal CD.
Result: It works, but:
- No wired Ethernet available (but WiFi = OK).
- No audio.
- several yellow icons show up in "Device manager".
Neither "wired Ethernet card" nor "Audio device" show up in "Device manager".
Aida and Everest softwares cannot locate them.
It seems that those functions are integrated on the motherboard.
I tried installing some drivers found on the Lenovo site and other
sites, with no positive results.
So I am still stuck with no Wired connection, and no audio (much worse).
How can I get this motherboard to provide Ethernet and Audio when running W XP?
I assume that the Hardware is OK because audio and ethernet work when
I run W7 on the old HDD. It also works with a live-CD Ubuntu.
Computer is X200s, Type 7466-3RG.
According to AIDA, motherboard is "LENOVO 74663RG".
According to Device manager, the system board has no driver installed.
If somebody has some hands-on experience about this problem, I would
greatly appreciate his/her advice.

This link also works for your X200s:

In Component, select Networking LAN to get plenty drivers.

SATA tip

Also, you could slipstream SATA drivers in with your XP install so that the computer doesn't have to drag down with IDE emulation performance losses. This will be especially helpful for performance if you're installing an SSD.
