Initially I thought it was a driver issue (didn't see the issue on bootup initially)
Then I thought it was some hardware issue.
Pressing the bezel at the bottom seemed to help.
As I disassembled the LCD enclosure, I decided to pad around the connector wires with double-side tape (left one side unsticky) on both sides of the connector. I also padded the left side of the LCD as there was surprisingly very little there.
As that didn't seem to have a great effect, I also unplugged and replugged the wires (and they seemed good.. although the bezel on this was replaced under warranty 2-3 years ago)
This seemed to help, but I now think the issue is with the actual LCD.
My 10mo old may have hit this poor old x220 a few too many times.
The discoloration appears mostly as you move the LCD, or press it a little on the left hand side (including through the bezel).
Is there anything special about 1/6? My resolution is 1366x768. Trying to figure out if I should splurge on a new LCD, or turn this into a desktop (since it needs a battery too)

I would describe discoloration as the wrong colors being shown. E.g. pink instead of white. Or fonts becoming slighly blurry.
When it boots up it's clearly white instead of black (but it's not as "black and white" when windows are up.. it's actually surprisingly useful, except for looking at pics)
