X201 Screen Replacement Verification
Hi all. My X2001 Frankie has an older CCFL-backlit screen which is starting to show a reddish hue when starting up. It has been dim since the day I acquired it which leads me to believe the screen may give out any day now. I am on the fence about buying a screen from fleabay with an item model number of:
LP121WX3(TL)(C1)
The fleabay listing has it listed as a CCFL. I did a little searching and sites I've looked at it indicate it is an LED-backlit screen. I do not wish for another CCFL-backlit screen therefore I am specifically looking for an LED-backlit type. I am hoping perhaps someone has experience with the screen I might purchase i.e., LP121WX3(TL)(C1)?

LED-lit TN screen...with pretty weak viewing angles according to what can be found here:
http://www.panelook.com/LP121WX3-TLC1_L ... _5100.html
You're going to need a few other parts - possibly an entire lid assembly - when moving from CCFL to LED. Someone else will have to chime in on what *exactly* is required, but my main dilemma would be whether such an undertaking is worth it to begin with.
Good luck.

Re: X201 Screen Replacement Verification
I'd get an AFFS screen. Last time I checked there were still quite cheap. Years ago I got a full lid assembly from a Gateway notebook for around 45 USD.
Those panels are very nice, but they're glossy... The matte counterparts are quite expensive...

Alternatively, get the complete lid from an X200s or X201s with LED-lit WXGA+ (1440x900).
You'd lose the webcam that way.
Those lids are recognizable in that they have NO "groove" along the lid.

NO groove: http://www.ebay.com/itm/361200760352
Be careful to check what sellers advertise, quite often they lie through their back teeth...
Also, eBay's search engine leaves a lot to be wished...

Re: X201 Screen Replacement Verification
Hi guys thanks for answering! For $29 (free shipping included) I went ahead and ordered an LG LED backlit screen. I just need something fast and at this point I am not too particular about the TN vs IPS or AFFS display. My X201 stays docked on my desk while I carry my C720 out-and-about. I use my X201 to extend to an external monitor for increased productivity and because my external monitor has better picture quality.
Also I already have the LED board and the LED cable (PN 44C9991) so hopefully that is all that is needed for the swap. Having to need a different lid??? I hope that is not the case! I guess I will find out Monday when the screen arrives.
@Dom that 1440X900 screen would have been wonderful however at this point the trope of the broke-and-hungry-college-student remains in full-effect for the time being

EDIT: the screen just arrived. Wow! That is what you call fast shipping!
EDIT: I forgot to update this thread but my LED replacement screen has been installed and it is working well albeit (1) white spot and (1) dead pixel. Regardless going from a very dim screen to the LED backlit one is working out well for my Frankie! Just need to tweak the color settings a bit as it is cool vs warm. Also I did not need a different lid - the LED backlit screen fit like a glove
