wifi antenna

#1 Post by EvoT61 » Sat Jan 09, 2016 11:23 am

hi tp`s
i have an issue with my x220 wifi antenna ( due to cheap design of the top of the lid) which creates me a huge headache ....
I cleared up my way to see what is what and discovered that solder from antenna`s - broken due to lid design ( creates flappyness when clips which holds top of the lid with lenovo logo brakes apart ) ... i got hold of soldering iron and solder ( Sn:99.3% Cu:0.7%) soldered but nothing at all ... ive seen some videos how people modifying antenna`s but i have not tried yet but what i did is i took antenna`s from t61 ( i have spare ones) and connected ... i have signal, but its weak , much weaker then on t61 ! ... then i tried use antenna`s from old routers , which is much much weaker... .
What can i do ? any good versatile antenna`s to use in laptops ? would be good to boost them up a bit , im happy with my wifi card im just not happy with antenna`s . how are these metal pieces manufactured ? can i buy some sort of special applicable compound to boost the signal ? why did my soldering did not worked out ? did i burned up antenna with to hot soldering ? or my soldering metal is biggest crap i could buy ?
P.s dipole antenna , any ideas about quality piece of dipole antenna like this : https://www.groundedreason.com/wp-conte ... 9/ears.jpg ? i dont have any kind of signal strength , antenna signal flow metering tool so i wont be able to see real results i just see simple results within percentage in os and comparing with t61 signal with this same antenna`s but different wifi card.

FYI: those antenna wires have a center core which is insulated, and packed in a ground-sheath, which is then also insulated by the outer insulation.
If ground and center meet, you've got your 'sinner'.
Check your solder joints that they are not real 'joins'.

It's best to find the original antennas made for your model. Try eBay, perhaps order an entire LCD back cover with antennas still attached if you can't find individual antennas.

Any metal / conductive object near an antenna changes its resonant frequency, so the stock antennas are tuned to perform best in its particular environment, with all the metal frames / LCD parts near them. Switch to any other antenna, and your signal won't be as good.
