Left arrow key reseating

#1 Post by kpevav » Sun May 08, 2016 8:28 pm

This key popped out when I was reinstalling my keyboard, and I can't figure out how to get it back in. I have always been able to reinstall a key before. Any suggestions or video on this one? I have scoured the web and not found anything pertinent to my X220.

As you can see from the two shots, the white part is fastened to the key back.

Assuming nothing is broken, you may need to carefully pry the white plastic off the keycap, set it, together with the black piece, in the keyboard, then push the keycap on top of them. Be very careful, because the plastic ears that hold the white/black scissors attached are very fragile.

One good way to do it is carefully pry off one of the other arrow keycaps, so that only the cap come of and the scissor mechanisms stays attached to the backplate. This will show you how to put it back correctly.

Thanks. I did that and it is not seating correctly. I ordered a replacement key for $6 and hope that maybe something is missing and the replacement will work.
