Will a X201 mainboard fit into X200s base?

#1 Post by xsixt » Mon May 23, 2016 2:55 am

I have heard of such a mod, but not sure if was successful.

Some sources say, it will work if you use a X200s fan assembly, but there is some issue with the display cable reaching.

Could anybody confirm this?

Do you mean a X201 board or a X201s board?
You will have heath issues by installing a full voltage processor (35W TDP) in a case designed for a lower voltage one (17W TDP). Besides, you will need a complete X201s heatsink, because they are different in many ways, a X200 heatsink won't never fit on a X201 board, and vice versa.

I've recently upgraded my X200t with a X201t board. Maybe what you need is that, a X201t board with complete fan and heatsink , it should be identical to a X201s board (which is more difficult to find), EXCEPT for the BIOS they use, maybe the X201t board must be reflashed with a X201s BIOS prior to being installed. In any case, I haven't tested it.

And, how did my board swapping result?

Well, the difference in performance and speed is noticeabily, but the difference in heat and fan noise too. The X200t board is really a cool one. The 1st. gen. i7 x201t board isn't. It idles at round 45-48°C, and with some light web surfing the temperature stays around 55°C. If you need performance, the processor will give it to you, but the temperature will soon raise up to 95°C. I've configured a energy setting with turboboost disabled, in order to keep the temperatures stable between 50°C an 70°C.
