BSOD X220

My turn I guess...after an upgrade/subsequent restart of my avast anti virus on my x220 I received a BSOD. Did the Launch startup repair of windows and it did work once. A second attempt to renew/update my Anti virus produced the same result and now even the Launch startup repair does not work anymore...
Looked on the net and it seems a damaged windows startup file...
As I would like to avoid doing a fresh Windows install I was hoping if somebody can guide me in the proper direction of repairing and or recovering my X220.
No, I don't have a back-up and only have Lenovo Windows 7 recovery CD's from my older X201...
Did exactly the same operation on my all in one HP desktop and there I did not run into these problems..
Frustrated to say the least...
What I do have is the original HDD with the original Windows installation on it...using a mSata SSD on this one so I always have the option to reinstall an older Win7 but this would mean I loose a lot of data.

Can you provide more information about the blue screen?
Does safe mode work?

Yes safe mode is working!
But with this I don't have any experience...

I am de-installing avast in safe mode as the problem originated from it...will report back if finished.
EDIT; normal boot with Avast removed!

Tried several times and every time I install the latest Avast 2016 (paid for it) I get a BSOD...guess I will have to look on the net to see if I can find a solution for it.
Safe mode and uninstalling avast does the trick...

Update...contacted Avast support desk. According to them it is not avast causing it?!
"depending on the mini dumps you sent us the crash should be related to ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!KiDoubleFaultAbort+b2 ) so there should not be related to avast application"
Right, so I am writing on the forum using my X220 WITHOUT avast installed. As soon I install avast I get the BSOD during start up.
Today did an BIOS upgrade to the latest BIOS for the X220, but still get the same BSOD.
Anybody who can get me on the right track here, I assume I have a file on this machine or even a driver which is not compatible with the latest Avast 2016...
Thanks,
Yves

Did the first part...
CPU Fam:6, Model:27, Stepping:7 and Revision:29
I would be surprised if the processor is damaged, it runs without any problem without Avast...?

Then send Avast out to pasture (or get your money back) and get BitDefender instead (free or paid)

I have been running Avast since 3 years...all ok. Renewed my subscription and did the subsequent update and I get the BSOD.
One moment all ok, next moment it fails to start... the X runs fine without avast. Then you have the so called avast "experts" telling me that its not their software causing the failure...with it fails, without is ok, not an expert but just using common sense and my brain during the T/S.
ByeBye avast!
