Wifi Antenna removal / replacement

#1 Post by T3f4l » Sun Jan 08, 2017 3:55 pm

Hi All

I'm in the process of rebuilding a X220 and have got a bit stuck, I've bought myself a brand new lid but need to switch over the wifi antenna and they are glued to the old lid.
So a couple of questions:
1. Has anyone ever used these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HIGH-GAIN-LAP ... SwdsFUMckj I am thinking of replacing the originals with these.
2. If the above are not suitable, has anyone managed to unstick and then re-stick the original antenna from the lid?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, have done a number of x301 & x201 lid replacements and successfully moved the antennas into the new lid.
Secret is a hair dryer to apply moderate heat to soften the antenna foil's adhesive.
Then, starting from the bottom of the foil, slowly pull it up - a thin blade to start it works well.
Near continuous heat is best, any resistance apply more heat - patience is the key, too much force will tear the foil.

Have never needed apply more adhesive after the move.
