x220 died! (BSOD on windows logo)

my x220 died... upgraded the BIOS and now windows 7 hates me and BSOD on startup.... should I have upgraded the BIOS before installing windows? how do I fix it? am I forced to reinstall windows? no big deal I have no files on it but will the windows key validate again is the question... don't want to pay another $200 on this machine

It depends on the BSOD error, I guess. Before the Windows logo appears, keep hitting the F8 key to access Windows' boot options. Select "Disable Automatic Restart on error" then press Enter. Windows will freeze on the BSOD screen, which will allow you to take a picture or note down the complete error code.

BIOS settings reset moving SATA from AHCI to Compatibility or vice versa?

Even bsod before windows logo when safe mode is selected... no real information on BSOD just says to uninstall new hardware and try again or contact hardware vendor or something like that... but can take picture if you really want

It was set to AHCI before and still set to that after... I only use compatibility if installing operating systems older than vista... could move it around and see if that's the problem but I don't think that it is...

Edit: it wasn't set to AHCI

Ok it defaults to compatibility for sata so moving it to AHCI fixed the problem for now.....
