SimpleTap 3.2?

When looking thro software for the x220 I came across a youtube video showing simpletap, and while I know it's been discontinued by lenovo, it looks like it might add some interesting features for a multitouch tablet like the x220t and x230t, is the reason for them dropping support due to windows 8 being released? Are there security issues with using it? I'm using windows 7 64bit btw.
