X220 IPS Bright Spots/Ghosting

My X220 has an IPS display but a couple of bright spots have developed and it suffers from ghosting sometimes. I know this was a common issue with the original X220 IPS displays but is there anything I can do to remove them or make them less noticeable instead of replacing the screen?

If I do need a new display, does anyone know a reputable UK seller I can purchase one from? I don't want to end up with a poor quality one, or one with the wrong FRU.

Unfortunately, you cannot remove them. You can make them less noticeable by using different background colors, but the image retention tends to be more visible on dark shades, whereas the white spots are move visible on light colors, so I don't know how you can achieve satisfactory results...

Cannot help you with UK sellers, but I can tell you that the X230 screen (FRU 04W3919), which stands for the LG LP125WH2(SL)(B3) is better than the original LP125WH2(SL)(B1) screen in terms of image retention, and although I cannot say whether it's less likely to develop white spots, mine hasn't, and it's been ~2.5 years.

The aftermarket screens such as LG LP125WH2(SL)(T1), (SL)(T2) and (SL)(T3) are said to be of even better quality. Some of them may be a straight drop-in replacement, some not, so I suggest you research this part a bit if you decide to go for a new screen.

The LG LP125WH2(SL)(T1) with mounting holes along left and right sides is also used in the Lenovo Twist S230U and is a perfect drop-in replacement.
I have one of those in my X220 and it is a beaut.
The (SL)(T2) has mounting holes along top and bottom, not advisable.
Don't know the (SL)(T3).

Thanks for the replies, I'll look into getting one of those models when I get fed up with these spots

I periodically look into x220 IPS options..read all the threads and reddits...and the mythical (SL)(T1) always come on top being
- slightly ligther than B3
- slightly less power hungry than B3
- slightly newer (couple of months) than B3
- AH-IPS and not the cheaper e-IPS (B3 is e-IPS)
- no ghosting

Now to my question: where did you find one? You bought it already naked or with the S230U digitizer attached? Removing the digitizer sounds like an extremely scary process...

I'm debating buying a full S230U display assembly I found...a bit scared to scalpel my way through the digitizer bezel...

I got this "naked": Lenovo Thinkpad Twist S230U Series 12.5" LCD SCREEN DISPLAY LP125WH2 SL T1 MATTE on eBay for $34.99.
No digitizer, it was a perfect drop-in!

Wow, cheap.
I'd be happy with even 60€ shipped.

I swear every auction i find with a certain product code (including the T1 and B3) in the title is a clickbait that actually reads "or a fully compatible model" in the listing.

I've tried looking for FRU identifiers, same. I've learned how to write "or a compatible model" in many languages in the process.

Maybe I should contact sellers. Maybe these compatible ones are like the real deal or even better, more modern AH-IPS displays. I don't know.
