Which battery is recommended for X220?

#1 Post by KayMW » Mon May 15, 2017 2:44 am

I just bought an X220 with a battery 29++ which only have 60% of designed capacity, so I want to buy a new battery for it.

But when I check on eBay, Amazon as well as Lenovo's official site, I found that someone says 44s are for X220 and others say 29s are for X220. So what's the difference between them?

Also, I think the genuine battery from Lenovo is too expensive... and I'm not sure it have the full capacity... So will other brands' battery damage the computer or malfunction? Which battery is recommended for now?

Please help... Thanks.

Sorry for the grammatical errors in the post, I'm really bad at grammar :(

44 is identical to 29 except it contains the authentication chip that allows the X230 to charge it.

Thus, an X220 can take both a 29 and a 44. An X230 (unless the EC mod is applied) can only take 44.

29 batteries are no longer manufactured, so any you get will be older, and probably have lower maximum capacity. If you are lucky to get a good one cheap enough, go for it, but there are no downsides going with a 44.

The number of pluses indicates number of cells. 29/44 - 4-cell, 29+/44+ - 6-cell, 29++/44++ - 9-cell.

Also you can add the slice battery (FRU: 42T4967) under the laptop for supreme battery life.

My experience eBay batteries is that it likely has been sitting a while, which usually lessens the capacity, so while you may pay less, you're in essence getting less as well. That's something to keep in mind.

I know, but I do not have so much money for a battery... And whatever... It's better than the battery I'm using right now (which only have 60% of design capacity...)

There are plenty of decent quality generics for around $20 if you're on a budget. The difficulty is in identifying bad ones, since they're typically unbranded but look at reviews or feedback where possible.

Try AliExpress and filter results by user feedback.

Edit: Just noticed you said you've already bought the 44+. :)

I spent $53 on it (A genuine Lenovo 44++, produced at 2013, with original box). It arrived just now.

It's charging right now. :)

The pricing policy of Lenovo just eludes me.
Lenovo US Website for 44++ battery today: http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/accessorie ... /p/0A36307
Lenovo SG Website for 44++ battery today, same item, but just around USD60 when converted (less than half the US price):
