wireless display on Windows 10?
wireless display on Windows 10?
It seems like it was possible with windows 7/8 to install the Intel WIDI Display Software from Lenovo or Intel's website to enable WIDI on the x220, but that installer is blocked from running on Windows 10. Even when I try installing in windows 8 compatibility mode, it is blocked with a message saying "this app cannot run on this PC, Intel WIDI display software doesn't work on this version of Windows".
I found that in the Windows 10 store, an app used to exist from Intel named "Intel WiDi Media Share", but it is no longer there.
Intel has deprecated WiDi in favor of miracast, which requires a newer processor than what came in the x220s. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... 05492.html
Are we in limbo? (running too new of OS to use WiDi, too old of hardware to use Miracast).. Has anyone found a way to hack WiDi into working on Windows 10?
Thanks,
Ryan

Re: wireless display on Windows 10?
You maybe able to use Microsoft Compatibility Administrator for Windows 10. This has previously been used to install Power Manager successfully.

Re: wireless display on Windows 10?
Thanks for the tip-- I did not know that tool existed! I was able to start the windows 7/8 installer now, but it looks like Intel runs an OS check inside of the installer, which despite the compatibility being set to windows 8 knows that it is running on Windows 10.

I am thinking Intel never made a WiDi version of the graphics drivers that work with windows 10, since Microsoft natively supported miracast. Intel never "back ported" miracast support onto the older hardware... so we are stuck.
Does anyone know of a third-party miracast sender application for windows 10 that gets around the hardware requirements of the native MS implementation?
