New battery for X201 or brand new ThinkPad

#1 Post by NicoMarcin » Fri Jul 14, 2017 11:27 am

Hi! I wasted time and mopney for cheap non-OEM batteries for my X201. Now I'm considering buying a brand new OEM battery or collect money for a totally new laptop. Of course I have SSD in my laptop, which works good generally - except graphics unit. What do You suggest?

I had horrible luck with generic batteries for the x201. I have not tried one, but I have really good luck with Anker brand batteries in Android phones, I saw they briefly made laptop batteries including one for the x201\x200. They sometimes show up new on Amazon for $30-40.

I recently bought a used x220 which happened to have a battery in quite good condition... so I am not sure if I will buy a decent one for the x201 or not. It is going to a family member and I guess it will depend on how much they end up using the x201.

In my experience OEM batteries for older notebooks that sell in expensively tend to have been sitting around for a while, hence the low price, but the charging capacity can sometimes take a hit.

Unless you're doing something where the GPU matters, the GPU upgrade probably doesn't matter much. To me the reason to upgrade would be to get a better higher resolution screen. If that's something you want, upgrading is worth considering. If you're happy with your current ThinkPad, a new battery costs a lot less than a notebook.

i have just changed my battery to 9 cells as the original battery has died, it costed me around US$47 in singapore here.
for the 9 cells battery can last around 4 to 5 hours with wifi on , i use Power Manager set the power to 16 watts.

Just bought this battery yesterday, i wish it will serve me good for min 4 hours, i heard from the shop seller this is using the Panasonic made battery cells so the quality is better or last longer comparing with the chinese made battery(i didnt ask for the price).

After bought it, i noticed from this forum got 12 cells battery?? A bit regret i did not go for 12 cells. May be next time, if my X201 is still working for me for the next few months.

My next project will be thinking on either change the hard dics to SSD or is it able to change the processor i5 (current) to i7 (any ?) i guess it will be not worth as i think need to change the complete mother board it might cost me a bomb?? <Must well better get another unit computer come with i7. :?:

Pls share your thoughts to me if any one did it (changing to SSD or the processor), thank you. :D

Those 12-cell batteries (if you can find them) are not official ones, AFAIK.
If they use Chinese knock-off cells, it will be a POS.
And you need to replace the motherboard if you want another CPU (they are soldered).

If you plan to change the motherboard of your x201 this might be interesting for you:

but it is more of a diy project.
