Confused on downloading drivers after fresh Win7 install
Confused on downloading drivers after fresh Win7 install
I got a refurbed X220 that came with Win10. I installed 64 bit Win7 instead. But I have to download drivers myself.
I went to the Lenovo's site and it's so confusing, there are multiple options for everything. For example, going under "Networking: Wireless Lan" there are 7 choices, ranging from Intel Wireless LAN to Thinkpad Wireless Lan...
How do I know which to download and is there an easier way? I wouldn't want to install the wrong drivers or miss out on some.
Thanks

Re: Confused on downloading drivers after fresh Win7 install
In pretty much all cases it's best to download the latest driver, but my advice would be to install Lenovo System update as it tells you which drivers you need and lets you choose what to install.

Thanks.
Is it the ThinkVantage System Update?
What about the Lenovo Service Bridge? How does that work?

Re: Confused on downloading drivers after fresh Win7 install
Yup! Don't bother with the LSB, the only Lenovo software I download on my machines alongside the drivers is Lenovo Power Manager since you can do some pretty nifty stuff with it, such as set custom charge thresholds.

Re: Confused on downloading drivers after fresh Win7 install
Thanks.
Speaking of charge threshold, you can stop the battery from being charged once it reaches a certain threshold? That way, you can keep the battery in the unit all the time and keep the unit plugged in and it won't ruin the battery quickly?
On one of my previous laptop, I kept it plugged in all the time with the battery, and the battery quickly lost capacity. So now I tend to take out the battery when I want to use the laptop as a desktop. But it's such a hassle.

Yes. Plenty of advice on "how to" along with suggested thresholds on this forum.

Re: Confused on downloading drivers after fresh Win7 install
1) In Lenovo's Power Manager (for Win7 anyways), there is an "Optimize Battery Life Mode" under [Advanced_Mode]>>[Battery]>>[Battery_Maintenance] where battery starts charging when below 46%, and stops charging when reaching 50%.
This was supposed to safe battery life, according to Lenovo.
2) <<For completeness only>>:
For Windows 10, there is this newer "Lenovo Settings" found in Windows 10 Store that does the same thing:
