x200 ultrabase 2 monitors, daisy chaining possibility

#1 Post by radostzohany » Tue Aug 29, 2017 6:46 am

Hi I would want to use two Dell S2240L monitors, would there be a possibility to buy display port to hdmi and hdmi splitter and connect it from the ultrabase DP port, this way? or is there a way to daisy chain them? I would really appreciate your advice, I would also want to try it with linux since the smoothness of os and curiosity.

Welcome to the forum. :)

If you split a single output to multiple monitors, they will only be able to show the same image.

DisplayPort daisy-chaining is a feature, which, I believe, the monitor should support. If the monitor only has HDMI inputs, it does not support daisy-chaining.

The monitors you mentioned seem to have HDMI and VGA. You can connect one using DP-to-HDMI adapter, and the other using VGA.

about 15 years ago i used a mini-dock on a T40 series thinkpad and connected two displays.. one to the dock and one to the thinkpad..
they both worked and if my memory is correct each could show a different window..
someplace in a few TB of disk i have a picture.. not sure how i would find it though..

Thank you very much for welcoming me here to this beautiful community :) Im very happy to be a part of it. Im trying to figure out which used 1080p budget monitor I should buy but there is ton of them and I dont want to deal with the issues like ghosting :( some IPS tends to produce hotspots and there is too much antiglare on some displays. Kind of confusing for me  :help: :? . Thank you very much for that tip, I think it would be ok to hook on of them through dp and second through vga.
The monitors must have DP v1.2 at least for this feature or Im I mistaken? thank you
You must have a lot of data there lol :D you remind me of someone

daisy chaining is not exactly the correct term.. multiple monitors would be more exact IMO which is what i did with the T40 series experiment years ago and at that time i used DELL displays..

sorry i missed this 'till now..
but that was then and this is now..

i use DELL 2001FP and other similar models now only in my security system..

then, in about 2002 i used a big wide bezel DELL 20 inch, the exact model # i have forgotten..

just two connected with 9 pin VESA connections..
to an mini-dock or ultrabase 9 pin and the thinkpad 9 pin plug..

nothing special about either of those components..

I used to use a 2001FP. Gorgeous monitor but I swapped it for 2 24" 1920x1200. I benefit greatly from the extra width, while still retaining the 1200p vertical resolution.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
