The X60/61 keyboard mostly works on the X220 :O

#1 Post by axur-delmeria » Thu Aug 31, 2017 10:54 am

My sister's X220 has a random shutdown issue. She upgraded to a new laptop because of it, and gave the X220 to me. Its keyboard went to my dad's X220, since his was had keys intermittently not working.

Been trying to narrow down the cause of the random shutdown, but the keyboard finally gave up the ghost. Laptop itself was working, as I plugged the keyboard from my own X220 to make sure. Then I looked through the Thinkpad schematics I had, wondering if there was another model that used the same connector.

Lo and behold, the X61 keyboard fit the bill!

I have a few X60 series lying around, so I took out one keyboard and plugged it into the X220. Pressed the power button, and it's alive, it's ALIVE!!

Most of the keys work, except Fn and Windows keys, but it may be just this keyboard-- I haven't used the X61 Tablet this keyboard came from in a long while (6 months, I think).

Trackpoint works as well.

I'm actually typing this very post on said keyboard :D

More knowledge for us Thinkpadders! :thumbs-UP:

The Fn and Win keys of a W500 keyboard I plugged into my T520 for a time did not work either while in the T520.

It's grey alright. Bleached blue?

Another wild one can be found on this pic: http://i.imgur.com/UbRnhIA.jpg
It took me a LONG while to find that pic, so they must not be very common.

I remember encountering an X61 with that grayish Enter key. My eyes register the color as a dark tinge of moss green, or maybe olive drab.
