X220 flashing display; faulty cable or motherboard?

#1 Post by NadavCE » Mon Sep 04, 2017 1:14 pm

Hello, haven't posted here in a while.

My X220 recently started flashing its display in different colours. This happened when I scrolled through webpages or documents - see here. I've tried everything to fix it (formatting and reinstalling, updating SSD firmware, updating and reflashing Coreboot, reconfiguring Coreboot with SeaVGABIOS, swapping displays...) and nothing worked.

Is this issue indicative of a failing motherboard? Or a failing display cable? Could using nitrocaster's board solve this issue?

Edit: Strangely, the issue doesn't present itself if an external monitor is plugged in... The moment the output is disabled, the issue presents itself.

Edit 2: The laptop also doesn't detect the dock's DP output... I think it's safe to say the motherboard is on its way out.
