Can I Libreboot an x201?

#1 Post by TheTechnologyGuy » Thu Oct 12, 2017 3:02 pm

I find the official Libreboot page a bit confusing. I'm not sure when they state...

"It is believed that all X200 laptops are compatible. X200S and X200 Tablet will also work, depending on the configuration."

...they mean ANY X2xx series ThinkPads are compatible or only X200/X200x ThinkPads are compatible so I'm just going to ask the direct question here. :?

From the fact that X60 laptops are compatible but X61 laptops are not compatible. I'd say that it should only be the X200. I can't confirm this for CERTAIN but I'm 98% sure that the X201 isn't compatible.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

From what I've read there I don't interpret the X201 as being compatible either.

Libreboot is essentially the extremist mod of Coreboot designed to not support binary blobs - so first there should be a working coreboot port (it has allegedly has relatively major bugs with standby or usb depending on the version you pick, or it did earlier this year) and seeing how there's no alternative to having Intel ME on X201 (unless you stick an air compressor in the fan hole)...
X201 (i5, 8GB, 480GB)
T61 (T7500, 4GB, 500GB, DVD-RW) + Advanced Mini Dock

You could always pull the red wire from the fan and solder it directly to a 5V rail of the computer and keep the sense wire attached so that the computer doesn't throw a fan error on boot.

Intel ME, Windows ME, anything ME just sucks.
