non lenovo hard drive bay adaptor in ultrabase3

#1 Post by thelash » Fri Oct 20, 2017 2:20 am

I have an ultrabase 3 for my X220 which works very well, including using the dvd rw drive. Hot swapping and all the other functions seem to be fine. I purchased a 3rd party hard drive bay adaptor (pretty cheap so no great shakes) to use a spare 5400 rpm 320 gig hitachi drive which was originally in the laptop and it is not recognized. The bay adaptor seems to have the same shape and plastic bits that the dvd drive has, the hdd clicks into the connectors well and the unit seems to slot in to the bay and engage with the motherboard connector. Do I need to get a genuine lenovo adaptor, or are there some tricks in getting this to work that I need to try?

Does that adapter also have the same SATA connector and 'pushpin' next to it as your DVD-drive?

You are talking about hdd/sdd 9.5mm caddy for dvd bay ? or i got something wrong

My 2euros plastic caddy from aliexpress Works great in ultrabase3 with X220

Try moving caddy to left, right, and more forward but gently. Maybe it didnt make good contact.

Thanks for the prompt replies rbs and pamark. Yes to you both - the connector and push pin look identical and locations the same, even get the same clicks as I engage them. Will try a bit of fiddling round with positioning and get back to you.
