X201 - High power usage

#1 Post by NicoMarcin » Sat Nov 18, 2017 9:36 am

I am still fighting with very short battery working time in my X201. I have SSD and Windows 7 onboard with aero off. I read somewhere, that normal usage equals about 10 Watts while I hit 23 sometimes. What should I do? I have non-OEM battery with 9 cells and 6600mAh (I know I should use OEM one), but in PL it is very expensive - almost 200 EURO which is more than price I have paid for this laptop in 2015.

Check if Turbo Boost is enabled. If it is, disable it.

Try various drivers, post your powercfg output, check background activities (OneDrive, Steam, some update tool). Run antivirus, tweak power management settings.

I'm not running Windows at the moment, but it's usually in Power Manager. Once you set it to Advanced, you can see the settings of the different power profiles. There's a setting "Maximum CPU speed" or similar, If it's set to "Turbo" or "Max Turbo", change it to "Adaptive".
