X230 tablet classic (X220t) keyboard swap. Possible?!?!

#1 Post by Ogog10002 » Fri Dec 01, 2017 7:46 pm

Hello all thinkpaders!
I'm thinking of purchasing a X230 tablet but the only thing that's stopping me is that I'm not sure if one can swap the keyboard of it with the one from its older brother the X220 tablet.
Also do you think that there is a point in buying the x230t in the first place even if it is possible to change its keyboard when one can simply buy a x220t. Is the performance of the x230t that much better than the x220t or are they more or less the same.
The versions I'm theoretically comparing are the ones with intel i7.
I would like to hear what you guys and girls Think.
Thank you all in advance.

Yes, I believe you can swap the keyboards and apply the embedded controller patch. I know it possible on T/W/X*30 systems and I don't see why the tablet would be different.

CPU performance-wise, for similar clock speeds, there will not be a big difference. The following difference may be more significant:
* Better GPU performance
* Support for 3 screens in extended desktop modes (versus 2 on *20 series)
* USB 3.0 (unlike the regular X220, the X220 Tablet has no USB 3.0 even in the i7 version)
Thinkpad 25 (20K7), T490 (20N3), Yoga 14 (20FY), T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X220 4291-4BG
X61 7673-V2V, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G, X32 (IPS Screen), A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
