Display problem X220i Tablet
Re: Display problem X220i Tablet
Checked the schematic again and the fuses associated with the LCD with my very limited knowledge seem to be F1,F2,F3,F4,and F6. They all are good on both boards.

Re: Display problem X220i Tablet
Are you sure that something is wrong elsewhere like a bad AC adapter not providing enough current, a WWAN card that isn't working, etc.?
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Re: Display problem X220i Tablet
I picked up a very clean 230T at our university used store. I noticed the display looked identical so I tested the display I purchased on the X230T, it worked. Next I checked the display with the I5 board and it did not work, no image at all. Then I checked again if the display worked with the I3 board, there was image but no backlight. I retested the display on the X230T and it worked. I also tested the original display on the X230T and it showed image but no backlight. Does this tell me I have two bad system boards and one bad display?

Re: Display problem X220i Tablet
So it looks like:
- i3-mobo still has a blown B/L fuse
- i5-mobo is a dud
- original display has bad LCD-cable or blown inverter-fuse (if CCFL) or bad B/L or bad altogether
To test this screen further, you'd need to take it, plus the new X230t screen, apart and swap LCDs.

Re: Display problem X220i Tablet
I have checked F1 which feeds VBL20 and F2 which feeds VCC3P (which seems to be the B/L control and they are good, I also checked F6,F3 and F4. Is there a way to check voltages and see what is going on or just time to call it and say the board is bad?RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Thu May 10, 2018 3:55 amSo it looks like:

EDit: However it is interesting as this board boots up and displays to an external monitor on the display port. When I hook up a good LCD no output at all. I plan on returning this board
I put a new cable on this display and no change. It is LED B/LRealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Thu May 10, 2018 3:55 amoriginal display has bad LCD-cable or blown inverter-fuse (if CCFL) or bad B/L or bad altogether
Once I get a good board working with a display I will considering tearing apart the display. How do you take apart the LCD and digitizer module?RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Thu May 10, 2018 3:55 amTo test this screen further, you'd need to take it, plus the new X230t screen, apart and swap LCDs.

Re: Display problem X220i Tablet
Leave those together.
Re: Display problem X220i Tablet
Update: got another I5 board and it works fine with the used display I purchased, what I expected. I tried it with the original display and no back light.
So, now I have enough parts to put together a good X220T and the X230T.
I am unclear how to trouble shoot the original display. Can the LED backlight be replaced or is there something that can be repaired ?
I am still curious if the I3 board can be repaired or is it a GPU problem? As noted, all of the fuses tested good.
Same question about the I5 board, wondering if the failure mode is the same for the I3 and i5 boards?

Re: Display problem X220i Tablet
I put together a working X220T with the I5 board and a new used display. Seems to run well with W7, Bluetooth is not showing so need to open it up again, might need to be reseated. Waiting for a battery and then plan to sell. It was an interesting learning.
I pulled the digitizer away from the lcd. It came off pretty easy. Tossed the LCD but decided to save the digitizer in case someone might want to play with it. Not sure if it is good but would send out free for postageI am unclear how to trouble shoot the original display. Can the LED backlight be replaced or is there something that can be repaired ?
I recycled two motherboards after removing the fans and card cages.I am still curious if the I3 board can be repaired or is it a GPU problem? As noted, all of the fuses tested good.
