x200s Post, Screen Buzzes, Then Screen Goes Blank

#1 Post by richramo » Thu May 24, 2018 5:54 am

I picked up a fault X200s for $20 with the hope of fixing it. The issue is when turned on, it posts for a few seconds, I hear a buzz and then the screen goes blank.

Checked with a external screen and it seems to be fine, so it looks to be screen related.

Wondering if it is likely to be the digital inverter or a blown fuse, which i read someone it could be.

Have done a some work on Thinkpads previously but never changed a screen or inverter.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is that a CCFL backlight?
It sounds more like a broken tube.

Thanks RealBlackStuff.

Sounds as if I need to investigate further.

Is there a way to determine that the CCFL backlight or if it has a broken tube and if so how difficult would it be to fix?

The screen flashes up for a bit but then it flashes off after hearing a hissing sound.

To give you an idea of what CCFL-swap means, read this: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=88991

Put a flashlight to the display and see if an image appears, but dark. If so, probably the CCFL
