Wake on LAN (WOL) over wireless card

#1 Post by 28CarsLater » Fri Jun 01, 2018 7:00 pm

Hi, is Wake on LAN (WOL) even possible over a wireless card? Another thought I had, does such a device exist which interfaces with the NIC but functions over wireless as that should work. I have an X300 with a busted screen I want to repurpose, but in general I am curious about this. Thanks in advance.
Typing this on: an R60 I won't stop using.

Laying around: X300(s), R500, R61 15.4 (headless media server)

Work: T450s with an horrible W7 image.

In various states: T520, X60T, W701, misc T/R500s

It is possible with Windows, at least, and has been for some time:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... reless-lan

The wake feature is implemented on the OS level, not BIOS level, so it may not work globally in all environments.

I think that at least Intel's latest WiFi adapters implement this, but I don't have the details.
