Thinkpad x201 with i3 core and heat issue

#1 Post by ijunsung » Thu Jun 14, 2018 7:10 pm

Hi Forum,

I am interested in purchasing x201 model for internet, youtube and office. I've found that x201 is notorious for its heat issue.

Does x201 with i3 cpu have a similar heat issue as same as the same model with i5 or i7?

I appreciate your experience of x201 with i3 cpu.

Do not go this way.

Performance-wise, i3 X201 is on par with X200 w/ Penryn. Heat-wise X200 runs MUCH cooler.

i5/i7 is the only reaason going for X201 instead of X200.
X201s runs reasonably cooler with its low-voltage i7.

I do own both X200,X201 and X201s. I have owned X200s and i3 X200; plus all the X series earlier and later (X41 and X32 being still in my collection, and X220 and X230 being ready for sale). I like X201s the most for acceptable temperatures, acceptable battery life and better graphics and CPU performance (yes, there are some non-office non-gaming situations where 5700MHD over 4500MHD does the difference). However, if MHD does not make a difference, I'm definietely into X200 w/P8700 or P8800. Can be undervolted, runs cool. Very cool in fact.
Too many thinkpads not enough time!
